NSA Souda Bay Navy Exchange Micro Market Grand Opening

The newly constructed, fully automated NEX Micro Market resolves an operational gap in dining services onboard NSA Souda Bay after seven p.m. by providing secure, round-the-clock access to meals, snacks, beverages, and toiletries.

"Our mission is to support the warfighter, and you cannot have a mission-ready force without proper nutrition," said Capt. Patrick O'Neill, commanding officer, NSA Souda Bay. "For a very long time, our night-shift personnel and watch standers did not have any substantial food options after seven p.m. This NEX Micro Market is a game-changer. It represents a huge step forward in fueling our warfighters and ensuring that those who stand watch and conduct operations overnight are well-supported!"

The Micro Market operates on a self-checkout model, utilizing secure electronic kiosks. It is consistently stocked with a variety of refrigerated items, microwavable meals, protein options, and beverages tailored to the nutritional needs of active-duty service members.

"We listened to the feedback from the community and worked closely with the Installation to make this a reality," said Jennifer Sullivans, NSA Souda Bay NEX general manager. "The Micro Market concept brings modern, self-service convenience directly to where it is needed most. Whether it is two in the morning or two in the afternoon, Team Souda now has reliable access to quality nourishment to keep them focused on the mission."

Adding to the day's events, the Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders made a special appearance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The cheerleaders' visit was part of an Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE) tour, which culminated later in the evening with the "Pre Pro Blitz" Flag Football Show hosted by the NSA Souda Bay Morale, Welfare and Recreation at the Base Fitness Center.

The high-energy celebration highlighted NSA Souda Bay’s and the U.S. Navy's ongoing commitment to enhancing morale, support, and quality-of-life services for forward-deployed personnel stationed in Crete, Greece.

NSA Souda Bay is an operational ashore installation which enables and supports U.S., Allied, Coalition, and partner nation forces to preserve security and stability in the European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility.
